Abstract

The objective of the study is to describe which management method works well in type1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Specifically, it aims to determine which type of management- herbal, prescribed medication or both will effectively lowered blood glucose level. Moreover, it will also discuss the duration of use, severity of its manifestations and their significant difference in terms of blood glucose levels in both types of DM. The researchers used non experimental descriptive correlation design research to describe the relationship among variables. Purposive sampling was employed in the study. The study was conducted at a government owned general, tertiary medical center in the city of Cebu, particularly, this was done in the Diabetes Mellitus Clinic. There were 340 randomly selected diabetic clients type 1 and type 2 who were studied. The researchers used questionnaires during the guided interview which comprises two parts: the client’s demographic data and the situational appraisal. Review of pertinent data from the out-client department records of diabetic clients was also done. The interview and records review were initiated with the consent from the institution and the participants themselves. The comparison made between the management types of diabetes mellitus revealed that it did not influence the blood glucose level of the clients. Moreover, the researchers concluded that to significantly lower the blood glucose, one should not only manage the illness with herbal medication but also manage the diet and exercise.
