Abstract

Since 1982, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act has been revised several times. Among all the revisions, the latest one, which was revised in 2005, alters the original contents the most, so much so that it appears to reconstruct the basic principles of cultural heritage preservation in Taiwan. The object of this paper is to view how the concepts of cultural heritage have been adjusted and discussed in the successive revisions of the Act. In addition, the paper attempts to point out several problems that the latest version of the Act and its related concepts may encounter when practiced in reality.
